Although these words ripened in the political forum of the 13th century, it’s also true that even now, though the arguments have changed, accredited historians still debate about a figure about whom until this day no one has been able to form a wholly convincing historical and human representation. In these pages we wish to present some important events in the life and work of this figure without pretending to add fresh interpretations which will only be possible with the discovery of new and important sources of information.
